Interactive Student Revision and Assessment
Define Give the precise meaning of the term. A short, accurate definition is normally enough.
State Give the required fact directly. Do not add unnecessary explanation unless asked.
Identify Name or select the correct item. Usually no extended explanation is required unless the question also says explain.
Give Provide the requested example, fact or number of examples.
Describe Give characteristics or details about something. Say what it is like or what happens.
Explain Do more than give a definition. First define or identify what the thing is, then explain and justify the process: say how or why it works, why it is used, or how one part leads to another. A definition on its own is not a complete explanation.
Compare Identify similarities and/or differences between the things named in the question.
Justify Give a reasoned explanation for why a choice or action is appropriate. Link your reason directly to the situation.
Write Produce the requested code, statement, example or text accurately.
